INTERNATIONAL 14th UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE

The 9th Annual UMR Conference was successfully conducted on March 16–17, 2016, under the leadership of Director Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aman Khan and UMR Society President Mr. Ahmad Ibad. Centered on the timely theme “Prevent ‘Diabetes’ STAT: Screen, Test, Act, and Today,” the conference aimed to raise awareness about the growing public health challenge of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across Pakistan. 

Featuring the research abstracts—evenly contributed by students from Peshawar Medical and Dental College and other institutions—the conference highlighted a diverse range of medical and public health topics. A special emphasis was placed on diabetes and its complications, while other presentations explored issues such as the prevalence of anxiety and depression among medical students, factors influencing interest in biochemistry, and the relationship between emotional intelligence and glycemic control in diabetic patients. By integrating research with public health advocacy, the conference reinforced its role in shaping socially conscious and scientifically engaged future healthcare professionals.
