Key research themes included antimicrobial resistance, COVID-19, medical education challenges, public health interventions, and innovative clinical studies.
The second day of the 18th International UMR Conference was marked by a distinguished visit from Prof. Dr. Shoaib Shafi, President of the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), accompanied by regional CPSP members Prof. Dr. Jehangir Khan (Regional Director, Abbottabad) and Prof. Dr. Waqar Alam Jan (Regional Director, Peshawar). The delegates toured the exhibition hall, where they highly appreciated the dedication and effort invested in organizing a conference of such scale and academic rigor.
Following the exhibition, the guests presided over the plenary session titled “Undergraduate Medical Research: From Concept to Future,” delivered by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan. The session provided a concise yet insightful overview of the evolution and achievements of undergraduate medical research at Peshawar Medical College. In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Shoaib Shafi commended the institution’s unwavering commitment to sustaining this unique academic endeavor since 2007. He particularly praised the pioneering model of research rotations, describing it as an exemplary initiative worthy of replication across medical colleges nationwide.
The conference concluded with a dignified closing ceremony graced by the presence of Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor of Riphah International University, Islamabad. In his address, he lauded the young researchers for their enthusiasm and contributions to the field of medical research. Emphasizing the integration of knowledge and faith, he urged the participants—as future Muslim scientists, educators, and healthcare providers—to transcend worldly ambitions and dedicate themselves to serving humanity with sincerity and purpose.
